I originally wrote this in 2004.

I tried (halfheartedly) to read Hilary Clinton’s Living History. Flabby, trite… I followed her as far as Wellesley. No one seriously edits a former first lady.

One of my pet literary theories is that editing is a declining skill, too little exercised!
